One Foot Island
Aitutaki, Cook Islands, (South Pacific)
The Aitutaki atoll, traditionally known as Araura or Utataki, belongs to the Cook Islands and is located north of Rarotonga in the South Pacific Ocean. With a population of only about 2,000 residents, it is the most visited place in the small island nation for its stunning views and lush nature.
According to Tony Wheeler, founder of the Lonely Planet travel guide, “this is the most beautiful island in the world”. One of the smallest islands of this atoll is Tapuaetai, also called One Food Island, where we found the most spectacular beach in the archipelago, famous for its palm trees, white sand and coral reefs. Diving in its turquoise waters is an unforgettable experience.
Ribadeo, Lugo (Spain)
This beach is considered one of the best and most beautiful in Galicia, a unique place where nature has left its mark with special dedication. The domes, arches, galleries and caves that the sea and wind have carved on the rocks evoke the majestic structure of cathedrals, where the murmur and the whistling of the wind seeping between the monoliths resonate like organ music inside a church.
It is best to wander around during low tide, when you will see big rocks defying gravity, eroded cliffs with whimsical shapes and amazing caves, as well as small lakes, caves, passageways and arches. You will truly enjoy this natural wonder.
Lalomanu is a village on the east coast of Upolu Island in Samoa. Its secluded Lalomanu Beach is one of the most popular in the world for its calm waters and pristine sands. Here, you will find beautiful and colorful accommodations just a few steps from the sea, cared for by locals. The beach has stunning coral lagoons and one of the best views of the rocky coast of Samoa and the uninhabited island of Nu’utele, a perfect place for snorkeling and kayaking. When you go for a swim, keep your eyes open, and you will be able to see the beautiful bright blue starfish that lie on the bottom of the crystalline waters.
The spectacular Navagio beach is located north of the Greek island of Zakynthos, at the foot of a towering cliff, and it is only accessible by boat. This secluded cove of white sand and intense turquoise waters is one of the most popular beaches in Greek isles, having been repeatedly selected as one of the most spectacular coastlines in the world. The beach is named after the shipwreck (Ναυάγιο in Greek) of an alleged smugglers boat, whose remains are still on the sand as a remainder of the sinister event. There is a frequent ferryboat service departing from the capital of the island.
The Puipu beaches in the south of the island of Kauai are the most famous in Hawaii. The waters are very quiet, allowing you to swim with confidence. These beautiful beaches are especially recommended for families because some of them have protective nets for children and the stretch of white sand give the little ones plenty of space to play and enjoy building sandcastles in safety.
Tourists admire, in particular, the great extension and beautiful sunsets along the shore. The beaches of Puipu have a warm and peaceful atmosphere, where life slows down, and rest becomes an event in itself. ■
