Tiffany’s Blue Book Heralds The Arrival Of Spring

Patricia Abaroa

Tiffany’s continues its tradition of exceptional design and marketing with the arrival of the 2014 Blue Book. This year’s collection includes gems and diamonds in a colorful spectrum taken from scenic landscapes.

Featuring the vibrant colors and liveliness found in nature, the highly anticipated 2014 Tiffany Blue Book arrives just in time for spring with the resplendent jewels that have given the label its prestigious reputation. A must-have for collectors, connoisseurs and fashion enthusiasts, the book has been gracing customers’ mailboxes since 1845, making it the first mail order catalog in the United States. From a navy blue cover and line drawings, the book has evolved to include glossy photographs and a robin-egg blue cover. That robin-egg blue, which has taken the moniker of “Tiffany blue”, has come to signify glamour, sophistication and impeccable artistry.

If we look into the history of the tony catalog, we’ll discover the evolution of the New York brand through its most iconic moments. Early Blue Books showcased lavish diamonds, including French and Spanish crown jewels reset in exquisite Tiffany settings, which marked the first appearance of major gemstones in the U.S. These were followed by presentations of the platinum age of diamonds in the 1920s, Cocktail-Style Jewelry in the 1940s and 1950s, and dazzling creations in every era since.

This year’s catalog includes gems and diamonds in a colorful spectrum taken from scenic landscapes. Vibrant blues, greens, pinks, reds and yellows characterize the land, sea and sky, and some of the creatures found in nature. Pieces take on the movement, color and exuberance of a picture perfect spring time: fancy sapphires and diamonds adorn platinum vines in a striking necklace; blue chalcedony, Montana sapphires, moonstones and diamonds take flight in a butterfly brooch; dragonfly wings are simulated with sapphires, green tourmalines and diamonds in playful earrings; and a fun floral ring features diamonds and pink sapphires. This year’s Oscars ceremony became the perfect arena to showcase some of the stunning pieces from the collection. Actress Amy Adams shone in rhodochrosite, lapis and turquoise earrings and a fire opal, pink sapphire, yellow diamond and spessartite bead ring while actress Jessica Biel stunned in emerald-cut aquamarine and diamond platinum set drop earrings and emerald-cut aquamarine and diamond bow bracelet.

This year’s collection, a gallery of beautiful diamonds and rare gems that delight with color and excitement, provides for an endlessly charming and imaginative 2014 Tiffany Blue Book.
