Oscar de la Renta.The forecast of this “IT” color began at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week F/W 2014, when Naeem Khan sent a model down the runway in an intriguing iridescent metallic green halter gown; Oscar de la Renta put the color in polka-dots and embroideries; Giles Mendel of J Mendel introduced sheath dresses in a vibrant emerald leather and a flowing moss green chiffon gown, and Diane von Furstenberg clad numerous models in a glittery gold and pale green hue.A highlight came when fashion’s newest master of shapes and silhouettes Josep Font of Delpozo, echoed the sentiment of the green hue in an ethereal yet strong fluid dreaming silk skirt.
Saturated shade upon shade of greens reverberated throughout the shows in every city. Miu Miu in London (printed satins, organza and rich brocades). Giorgio Armani in Milan sent a clear message of green—actually, “lime green,” and referred to the hue as a “stimulating color”!
Green is believed to be the color of balance and symbolizes growth, harmony, and energy. But nowhere is the color more effervescent than in Etho Maria Haute Joallerie Artisan’s Green Tourmaline Collection, which includes a spectacular necklace and bracelet comprised of a blend of green tourmaline, green sapphires and phranite stones set in yellow gold accompanied with a sparkle of some diamonds. Tourmaline is special because it is the only stone that has so many vibrant colors with such clarity. Some tourmaline stones have striking combinations that change with the light. Because of these chromatic changes, tourmaline was considered to have magical properties and healing powers. Takis Etho of Etho Maria cites the “translucent shades of the green pebbles that you can find in a lake as well as the light, bright tints of sea green in the ocean” as his inspiration for this breathtaking collection.
The take on green was apparent in the Menswear Collections for the season as well! Rich bottle greens were featured in Dries van Noten’s prints and ethnic embroideries; Burberry Prorsum’s color story produced variations of teal hues, mint julep and bottle greens in luxurious cash-meres and silks. The Y-3 Menswear Collection was shown in Paris with deep forest greens and blacks accentuated with high-intensity neon lime green!

Green was ubiquitous in the season’s accessories collections as well— Giambattista Valli and Charlotte Olympia, respectfully, featured vibrant metallic malachite green and modern, fresh pastel shade of the color in their shoe collections. Along the same lines, Dolce and Gabbana’s collection included a sleek “ladylike” deep green handbag, and Burberry polished up a utilitarian sporty backpack in four shades of the color.
