Daimler AG’s Luxury Helicopter
Airbus joins Mercedes Benz to create an exclusive version of its successful Eurocopter EC145. The helicopter’s interior delivers all the quality, style and comfort that define the German luxury automaker.
Helicopters have proven to be the most flexible, comfortable, and efficient method of transportation for short distances in overcrowded areas with heavy street traffic. That’s why politicians, executives, athletes, and celebrities often use them to move around large cities. But these days, flying in a helicopter doesn`t mean giving up luxury or comfort, quite the opposite. There is currently a whole range of luxury helicopters that can be both chartered or private, and a perfect example is the Eurocopter EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style.
The European aviation giant Airbus’ helicopter division operates under the name Eurocopter. They joined luxury German automotive manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, to develop an aircraft with the spirit of the German firm that can offer potential customers a deluxe version of one of its most successful models, the Eurocopter EC145.
The result is a unique, one of a kind model specially developed by the Mercedes Benz’s advanced design team in their offices in Como, Italy. This is a medium-sized helicopter, with twin-engine and turbine, capable of carrying 4 or up to 8 passengers—depending on the desired seat configuration and the traveler’s preferences— with the all the comfort and amenities that we have come to expect from Mercedes-Benz’s legendary design and outstanding engineering since 1926.
Comfortable modular armchairs with leather upholstery, precious hardwoods, polished or brushed aluminum, advanced entertainment interface, ambience LED lighting system with color selection, and a double door for easy passenger boarding are included in the interior cabin of this aircraft, which is capable of flying at an altitude of over 11,000 feet (3,445 meters), with a maximum speed of 152 mph (246 Km/h), and a range of 422 miles or 680 kilometers.
The outline of this version of the EC145 was also conceived starting from a redesign of the helicopter’s nose, a special coating on the skids and a silver metallic paint, which give the craft a sticking look that gets everyone’s attention. The intention of Mercedes-Benz, which is part of the Daimler AG Group was to create an exterior design that would set this model apart from the competition—and other helicopters in the market—but with the Mercedes-Benz seal. “The interior of the EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style represents the brand’s classic design vocabulary and meets the highest expectations in terms of elegance, luxury, and comfort,” says Dr. Gordon Wargener, chief designer at Mercedes-Benz, who directed the project.
This jewel from Airbus caters to a very select market, composed of individuals who could use the aircraft both for short family trips and quick transfers within the city. When time is the most priced commodity, waiting in traffic in the world’s busiest cities, such as New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Madrid, Paris, Moscow or Dubai to name just a few, could wreak havoc on the hectic schedule of any executive. The option of using a private helicopter is no longer a frivolous luxury, but a necessity. The EC145 Mercedes-Benz Style is the perfect aircraft to get you where you want to go in time and in style. ■
