Bugatti Divo: The Model That Will Dethrone Chiron

Federico Tibytt

This new Bugatti model promises to be lightweight, agile and maneuverable at high speeds. Better than the emblematic Chiron—if such a thing is possible.

A new Bugatti, lighter, more agile and maneuverable at high speeds than the Chiron, takes anyone’s sleep away. By the name of Bugatti Divo, this new model adds a seasoning that makes it even more seductive: its launch price has been announced at $6 million, twice the price of Chiron.

Based on the platform of the successful Chiron, the Bugatti Divo will offer a new design aimed at efficiency at high speeds. Its emphasis on aerodynamics increases the wind pressure on the vehicle. And added to this, the new body performs better management of force G, avoiding unnecessary imbalances. In this way, the driver can take the curves at a higher speed and with total confidence.

The Chiron is an amazing model because, despite its 1,500 horsepower, it is an easy car to drive. Unlike other super high-powered cars, the Chiron feels like a normal car. Behind the wheel it seems easy to reach 260 mph or accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds. Improving these records seems impossible, but according to its manufacturers, the Divo can do it without problems.

The Bugatti Divo will use a V engine of 8,000 cubic centimeters and 16 cylinders. This powerful driver achieves a torque of 1,600 n/m available at only 2,000 rpm. All this power of thrust and acceleration is managed by a box DSG double clutch, 7-speed. In short, the same mechanical scheme as the Bugatti Chiron.

In a limited edition of 40 units, the new Bugatti was named after Albert Divo, a French driver of the early twentieth century, who won the Targa Florio race twice for the brand. The winding layout of this emblematic Italian race would be the perfect setting to test the capabilities of the new Divo.

“Happiness is not at the end of the curve. Happiness is at the curve. The Divo is made for the curves,” says Stephan Winkelmann, President of Bugatti Automobiles S.A.S. “With the Divo we want to excite everyone. In this project, the Bugatti design team has the opportunity to interpret the brand’s DNA in terms of agility and maneuverability, from a more performance-oriented perspective.”

Bugatti vehicles are not manufactured in production lines, like any other car. The automaker assembles its models a few times in a small manufacturing center, which makes the production of a unit an event.

The Bugatti Divo will be presented to the public at the event The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering as part of  Car Week in Monterey, California. So far, there’s no image to anticipate the aesthetics of the new model. And still, the company has already made some reservations for its first copies.

Car lovers have marked August 24 with the Bugatti logo on calendars. The presentation of the most expensive model in the history of the brand is not something that happens every day. ■
