Aunque, a d\u00eda de hoy, el whisky se elabora en muchos lugares del mundo, su nombre queda ineludiblemente ligado a la tierra que lo cre\u00f3 y lo hizo famoso: Escocia, lugar legendario en el que se destilan dos tipos de whisky; el de grano y el de malta. El primero se prepara a partir de agua de manantial, cebada malteada y no malteada y otros granos, mientras que el whisky de una sola malta se elabora solamente con agua y cebada malteada. El whisky de mezcla (Blended<\/em>) es el m\u00e1s demandado, ya que posee un sabor suave y probablemente m\u00e1s tolerable para el consumidor menos arriesgado. Pero sin duda, el rey de los whiskies es el de una sola malta (Single Malt<\/em>), todo un lujo y una delicia para aquellos que se han tomado la molestia de educar su paladar y adquirir el gusto complejo y gratificante de los sabores ahumados, aut\u00e9nticos y complejos. <\/p>\n

Existen seis regiones en Escocia, cada una de ellas, con su estilo propio:<\/p>\n

Speyside, cuyos whiskies suelen caracterizarse en general por su elegancia y complejidad y, a menudo, por un refinado toque ahumado. <\/p>\n

Lowlands, una zona que deja patente la suavidad de la propia cebada malteada. Highlands, la regi\u00f3n m\u00e1s extensa. Produce whiskies de car\u00e1cter desarrollado, firme, seco, con un peque\u00f1o toque de la turba de la regi\u00f3n. <\/p>\n

Islay, en las islas H\u00e9bridas interiores, tiene la suerte de poseer grandes concentraciones de turba, azotadas por el viento. Los single malts<\/em> de esta regi\u00f3n destacan por su car\u00e1cter fen\u00f3lico, a yodo y algas. <\/p>\n

Mi regi\u00f3n predilecta a la hora de elegir un whisky de una sola malta es Speyside, quiz\u00e1s porque all\u00ed se concentran m\u00e1s de 50 destiler\u00edas y es m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil encontrar alg\u00fan whisky que agrade. Pero son ustedes los que deben descubrir cu\u00e1l es el que mejor se ajusta a sus preferencias. Algunos personajes ilustres como Winston Churchill<\/strong>, Humphrey Bogart<\/strong>, John Wayne<\/strong>, Ernest Hemingway<\/strong> o Errol Flynn<\/strong> fueron entusiastas seguidores del single malts <\/em>durante su vida, y demostraron que los verdaderos amantes de este maravilloso licor de tonos dorados son casi siempre fieles a una marca hasta el final de sus d\u00edas.
